Bedroll Scheme In New Delhi Station
Railways Minister of India on 8th February 2016 introduced a scheme of take-away bedrolls in which travelers can take their bedrolls to their homes after their journey. “In the beginning, the supply of bedrolls would be done only at Chennai Central as well as Thiruvananthapuram Central of the Southern Railway region. Later, this scheme of take-away bedroll will be applied to several other stations of the country as well but in phases,” stated by a Indian Railway official.
Scheme of Takeaway Bedrolls
Initially, launched only in the Chennai’s Tambaram Railway Station, this takeaway bedroll scheme is available to passengers in 2 types. The first scheme costs 140 rupees and offers a kit of bedroll which consists of one pillow as well as 2 cotton bed sheets. The other costs 110 rupees, which offers only one blanket packed in a bag. The rates of both the types include taxes also.
Now, passengers who are travelling from Chennai station need not to carry beddings with them as scheme of personalized take-away bedrolls scheme has been started there and very soon the scheme will be launched in New Delhi Station also.
At the present time, Indian Railways supply bedrolls to the AC coaches only and the hiring cost of the bedrolls are included in the ticket cost. One Railway spokesperson said that this scheme can be enjoyed by any passenger having a confirmed valid ticket. “This scheme generally targets passengers of General as well as Sleeper Class, however even passengers of AC classes can also enjoy this scheme,” the official added.
